Tucepi

  • A segment of coastline perfectly shaped for summertime enjoyment. Tucepi boasts the longest beach on the Makarska Riviera - a 4km stretch of smooth pebbles enabling easy access into the dazzling blue water.
  • Tucepi shares a similar history to many resorts on the Riviera - the Illyrians, Greeks and Romans were here; after the Romans left, the population lived on constant fear of invasion. You'll find a treasury of history and folk architecture and culture in the hillside villages; defensive towers and secret caves where the locals hid from the Ottoman armies; mediaeval chapels and churches rural stone buildings. In the more peaceful 18th century, wealthy locals started to build fine villas along the seashore. The best-preserved example is today a good hotel, Hotel Kastelet. Modern homes and hotels grew up in the 20th century.
  • Low-rise and harmonious with white walls and terracotta rooftops, there's delightful air breezy holiday chic.
  • Makarska Riviera on the mainland coast, between Split and Dubrovnik, is home to some of the country’s loveliest stretches of beach. Running from Brela in the north to Gradac in the south, the Riviera is about 60 kilometres long and centres on Makarska. Makarska itself is built around a deep sheltered bay, and backed by the rocky heights of Mount Biokovo (1762m), which acts as a buffer from the harsher inland climate. Biokovo’s sea-facing slopes are criss-crossed by well-marked trails, so besides swimming in the deep turquoise Adriatic, it’s possible to get in some hiking or mountain biking too.
